Mediation is a process in which an impartial third party assists disputants in finding a mutually acceptable solution to their dispute. It is both voluntary and confidential.
The PERB is an independent impartial agency of the Government of the Virgin Islands which administers dispute resolution procedures. One of these dispute resolution procedures is the grievance mediation process. A request (voluntary) can be provided pursuant to an applicable provision of a collective bargaining agreement (CBA), or mediation can be ordered by the PERB. In either case, the mediation process is to assist the parties in reaching their own settlement of a particular dispute(s) which in turn, when resolved, saves them from the high cost of arbitration.
